  • I am a teacher.  I now work privately with Dyslexic clients, but when I was in the classroom, the system tied my hands.
  • If you’re a teacher and feel as if the red tape is too strong, or if you’re a parent and feel like you don’t have the tools to help your child, I’m here to assist you.

My Personal Story

  • I had a class of Sixth Grade student and only 5 could read at or above grade level.
  • I received my teaching credential in 1994 and had students in my 6th grade classroom who read at the Pre-K level.
  • I had 33 students.  I had 4-5 students who read at a pre-K level.
  • Around 4 or 5 students who read at a K level.
  • About 4-5 students who read at a 1st grade level  and so on.
  • Why was it that some students could read, write and spell easily while for others it came with so much difficulty?
  • “I’m the teacher—but, how was I supposed to teach at so many levels?"
  •  So, I decided to go back to school to get a Master’s Degree and a Reading Specialist Credential.  Even after those programs, I still did not know about Dyslexia.
  • The idea of being able to teach everyone to read seemed difficult.  Then, I started learning about Dyslexia through some great programs that I will tell you about in this coaching course.
  • “I Want Every Student to Be Successful in reading, writing and spelling!”
  • After my Master’s Degree program and Reading Specialist Credential, my story became personal.
  • When my children were 5 and 3, I started picking up early warning signs in my three year old for Dyslexia.  Thank goodness I had already begun my studies in private seminars to learn about Dyslexia, otherwise I wouldn’t have known what to look for.
  • I started working with my son when he was three!  All of the things I did with him were oral.  I did not push letters on him.  However, I started changing his brain pathways when he was three, which made him become a successful student who is now in the tenth grade and at the top of his class!
  • “But people say my kid will outgrow their reading problem.  Can I trust them?" The short answer in "No."
  • Here is what you need to know.  Teachers largely are not taught about Dyslexia in their teaching credential programs.  I even got a Master’s Degree and a reading specialist credential. Still, I was not taught about Dyslexia.
  • I had to learn about Dyslexia through private seminars!
  • So, please do not wait for a school to diagnose Dyslexia.  For teachers, please listen to your gut.  Even though a student has gone through the testing process, in most schools, they do not test for dyslexia.
